What is seventh sea?

A game that became a story. A story that became a project. A project that after three years of workm research, sweat and toil and ink, finally become a free on-line comic!
You, reader, are a role-player?
Seventh sea is a fairly-known role playing game with a great setting based on a semi-fantasy world inspired to the age of sail, from 1500 to 1700.
I am explaining this for personal coherence. I have been writing screenplays for years now, i have been drawing since i can remember, i have studied it, i love stories of piracy and costumed movies, i love the age of sail and i firmly believe in the saying “nothing makes history as marvellous as not having lived it” (that is: the historical ages most loved from historians and amateurs alike are always imagined in a way that is more glamorized and romantic than it would have been if one were to actually live in them)
But i haven’t created seventh sea, it is a tabletop role-playing game that has created a world  that is great, complex, politically enthralling, full of history, adventure and beauty, deeply rooted in the history of post-renaissance europe.
But most of all, it is a great excuse to play pirates. And i love pirates. Who doesn’t?

They’re like history’s rock and roll! Romance, ferocity, adventure. And above all, the sea.
This is the history of some of them, living their lives in a world much like ours, but where italy is called Vodacce, Spain is called Castille and  being invaded  by the french Montaigne: where a religion (similar to christianity) is almost sovereign in the name of Theus. A world where fairies and magic exist and are treated with the respect we’d tribute them if we were to meet them during a stroll in the irish countryside.

This is the seventh sea world: a paroxistic version of our world, but not for this any less realistic.
A great story narrated by a great friend of mine, with an uncommon capability for storytelling and directing epic tales, Vieri (who is also translating this. NdT) A captain to which i owe everything, in game as in real life, who has created a character which is a mirror of himself, Matteo, Gord, the main character of the story. Marzia, also known as Inga, the ussuran witch who has started to play with us almost half-heartedly and of which we could not do without; and many other friends, who have  joined our pirate story with their characters. Nevio, playing as Oreste, the huge but soft-hearted ship’s cook; Serafino, the happy-go lucky and foolish rogue known as Alessandro in real life: Mattia, our friend the sailor, who has played Gian Battista, the future boatswain of the Avventuriera, fierce hater of the Montaigne (as of the french in real life.); and many others who have made even richer this story, started as a way to pass an evening, and which became a great project, now numbering thirteen volumes to come.

The game continues, history won’t stop, the characters grow and my pencil traces lines on paper to bring you with me to distant shores, on green-blue seas to hear tales that will steal your hearts and fill the corners of your imagination.
A peculiarity of this comic are also the cameos amongst its pages: most of the people you’ll see drawn really exist, and could be friends, family, acquaintance, movie stars, musicians and people from somewhere else.

it doesn’t take much to join this plethora of cameos, and feel a little like part of the crew: just contacting me on the facebook page and sending a photo, after having dressed like a pirate 🙂

Also, project “Avventure dal 7 mare” is not just a comic; it is events, parties, even a branded rum-based drink, Scassadiavoli, produced by Gord himself, soon to be sold on our site.

That’s all, i think; and as we say before the start of a new adventure..
Se della morte è l’ora, saluta la signora!

(In the hour of our death…. Salute the Lady!)
Set sail, crew!
